What is Color Correction Makeup?
Color corrections usually have the form of concealers, although color correcting primers, primers and powders are also present. Instead of skin color, like your average concealer, they are usually a pale tint of green, yellow, lavender or peach.
When applying some kind of discoloration on the skin, these color correctors will neutralize the discoloration and eliminate the need for strong foundation.
Color Grading Wheel: Let's start with a few color theory
Every young makeup artist loves her color wheel for two reasons. First, he can tell you which colors stand out among other colors, so you can create beautiful blue eyes with a touch of copper or create amazing eye shadow / blush / lipstick combinations.
The second reason is that the color wheel is also very important for color correction. The color correction wheel shows us how different colors are related to each other.
When it comes to color-correcting makeup, we'd like to specifically search for complementary color pairings. These color pairings, when placed side by side, tend to produce each other. But when they are superimposed, they neutralize each other.
How do you like these complementary colors? It's super easy! Pick a color and then draw a straight line to the color that is directly above it. You will see that green is the opposite of red, yellow is the opposite of purple and blue is the opposite of orange.
Green color correctors
Since green is the opposite of red, green color correctors easily camouflage any redness on the face, be it red acne scars, moles, sunburn, a troublesome zit, or rosacea.
Yellow color correctors
The opposite of violet, yellow color correctors can be dark eye balancing noticeable veins and bruises, also perfectly balancing and lightening your skin color. Yellow color correctors are perfect for skin tones in olive and tan.
Orange Color Correctors
If you resist using sunscreen every time you step out the door, you may end up with dark spots and hyperpigmentation on the face, orange correctors may give you help to balance your skin tone and create the perfect base for your makeup.
Just remember that orange correctors are for those with dark skin tones, while those with lighter skin tones may use them just for contouring or for a subtle sun-kissed touch to their makeup.
Peach Color Correctors
While orange correctors are best suited for dark skin tones, those with medium skin tones should choose peach color correctors to hide blue or purple spots, bruises, and dark circles ,
Pink Color Correctors
Like Orange and Peach Color Correctors, Pink also covers blue toned patches, but it's perfect for brighter skin tones. You can use a pink color corrector to camouflage dark circles around the eyes to eliminate facial fatigue and make your skin look radiant and fresh. Pink color correctors are also great for lightening olive and dull skin.
Blue, Purple, or Lavender Color Correctors
The opposite of yellow, violet or lavender color correctors will remove yellow spots, remove the dullness from your yellow complexion and give it a beautiful finish Glow.
Eliminate Redness with Color Corrections for Different Skin Tones
There are several types of redness that you may experience. Your skin may be red due to acne, because of sensitivity or rosacea, because of broken capillaries, or just because your skin is a little red of course. Very rarely, the skin is really red, but rather tinged pink.
If your skin is pale, especially if it has a cool undertone, a pale green concealer is the best choice. Since green on the color wheel is opposite to red (and pale green is the opposite of pink), getting this redness off your feet will do a great job making your skin look even and flawless.
If you use Green Concealer for color correction, finish your perfected skin look with some creamy or fluid foundation, followed by powder.
For medium to dark skintones, especially those with warm undertones, a true yellow color - concealer might work better than a green one. It will do a good job of neutralizing the redness in your skin, but it will also fit better into your foundation and the rest of your makeup.
Erase these under-eye bags with color correctors
Dark circles are available in different colors. Take a close look at this pigmentation before choosing the perfect make-up color correction.
For dark-purple dark circles that are more red, you'll want to use a yellow, color-correcting concealer. Yellow completely neutralises the violet and also brightens the area below the eye.
If your skin is a little darker, the yellows above the dark circles can sometimes look ashen so you can mix a bit of orange with your yellow concealer for a warmer overall coverage.
For more blue-based dark circles, this pale peach color-correcting concealer is your friend, especially if you have pale skin. For those with darker skin, a rich orange concealer will work even better because it will match the darkness of your skin and will perfectly correct discoloration.
You can do post-correction makeup on the underlying eye with just a little concealer or foundation, and then a thin layer of powder.
lightening a pale complexion with color corrections
So the lavender needs Correction concealers exist for a reason, right? Well, I admit that in almost 10 years of working as a make-up artist, I've rarely seen the need to reach for the lavender concealer shadow, but I'll still tell you what it's about.
If you correct the purple dark circles, aim for the yellow concealer. So it just follows that a purple concealer will help with a yellow discoloration. This is usually in the case of paleness, when the skin is overly yellow not in this gloriously glowing way, but in an unhealthy way.
A lavender primer can do a fantastic job of color correction without applying too much color, but you can also mix a bit of heavy lavender concealer into your foundation. As this requires the easiest application of color correction make-up, even a powder foundation is enough to finish the look.
The Best Color Correction Make-up Application Technique
No matter what color you are color correcting, and no matter where the discoloration is, the application of color correctors themselves is about the same.
• Start with a cleansed, moisturized and primed face.
• Make a note of the areas on your face that you need to correct and apply your color-correcting concealer in points using your fingers or a concealer brush.
• Using a mixing brush, your fingers or a beauty blender, mix the color-correcting concealer until it sits in a very thin layer over your skin. Since the task of the colored concealer is to neutralize rather than mask, you do not need to build the cover. The thinnest layer is more than enough.
• Next, use a stippling technique to apply a primer or concealer that matches your skin tone over the color-corrected areas. It is best to use a liquid foundation. You want to tap the foundation on the skin so as not to disturb or remove the color-correcting make-up.
• To remove or hide excess makeup, gently tap it on a sponge or beauty blender. The sponge absorbs the surplus while keeping all layers.
• If you want to contour and highlight with cream products, now is the time. Finish with a dusting of your favorite powder setting, and the rest of the make-up look.
Color correction make-up tips & amp; Tricks
• Mix your color-correcting concealer with your foundation for a more subtle tint and a faster color-correcting make-up application. This technique is perfect for full face correction.
• If you are very pale with a cool undertone for your skin, a Lavender Concealer can work wonderfully as a highlighter.
• If you're trying to correct a subtle color throughout the face (like redness or paleness), a tinted primer may be better than a concealer.
• If you want to see spots here and there, like pimples or hyperpigmentation, then a cream concealer is the best choice. For the under eye, liquid concealers are usually best because they spread well and keep the under-eye area healthy and moisturized.
